6th Annual GEPN Celebration Recognized Cohort 9

On Thursday, August 24, 2017, the Graduate Entry Program in Nursing (GEPN) held its sixth annual GEPN Celebration at the UH Manoa Campus Center Executive Ballroom. More than 65 guests attended including outgoing GEPN students, faculty, staff, and administrators. The purpose of the event is to recognize GEPN students who have completed their pre-licensure year.

The event started with an oli by GEPN cohort 9 student Kerri Cummins followed by remarks from GEPN Director Dr. Rosalie Garcia, GEPN Coordinator Chris Stutes, and cohort 9 students. A special Sigma Theta Tau International, Honor Society of Nursing presentation recognized select students from cohort 9 who were nominated and inducted to the honor society this past Spring. Student awards, faculty award, and GEPN completion certificates were also presented.

GEPN students selected the following individuals as recipients of the student awards: Kerri Cummins, Leadership Award; Justin Tabbay, Kahiau Award; and Chadwick Council, Community Service Award. They also selected Dr. Carolyn Constantin as the GEPN Nurse Educator of the Year. The evening culminated with GEPN students reciting the Florence Nightingale Pledge – a tradition in nursing whereby students make a commitment to practice the profession of nursing with the highest ethical standards and to safeguard and promote health for the entire community. GEPN students who have completed their pre-licensure year sit for the NCLEX exam then continue with their education into a master’s or a doctoral pathway.
