Nursing Leader Panel Discusses “Bedside to Boardroom” at the UH Manoa Nursing Alumni Association’s 2nd Annual Endowed Scholarship Fundraiser

Initiating change and stories of resilience were common themes at the “Bedside to Boardroom” Nursing Leadership panel discussion at the University of Hawaii at Manoa Nursing Alumni Association’s 2nd Annual Endowed Scholarship Fundraiser held at the Japanese Cultural Center’s Manoa Grand Ballroom on March 6, 2015.

Guest speakers Nancy Atmospera-Walch, President & CEO, ADVANTAGE Health Care Provider; Beth Hoban, President & CEO, Prime Care Services Hawaii; Cindy Kamikawa, Interim Senior VP of Operations and CNO, The Queen’s Medical Center; Gary Kienbaum, Director of Perioperative Services, Kaiser Permanente Hawaii; and Gail Lerch, EVP Human Resources & Organizational Effectiveness, Hawaii Pacific Health candidly shared their career pathway stories to an audience of about 140 guests.

Sally Ishikawa, UH Manoa Nursing Alumni Association (UHMNAA) President and Lori Kaneshige, event chair and UHMNAA vice president, announced that with the second year’s event proceeds, the chapter raised over $55,000 for the UH Manoa Nursing Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship Fund!  They thanked all the alumni, faculty, staff, students, community partners, family and friends, who generously contributed to the scholarship to make their goal a reality. The scholarship benefits undergraduate and graduate nursing students enrolled at UH Manoa Nursing.

The first recipient of the UHMNAA Endowed Scholarship, Jessica Niles, expressed her thanks and spoke about how she came to choose nursing as a career after her experiences in the hospital with her children. Her nursing interests are OB, women’s health, critical care, and administration.
