The University of Hawaii at Manoa (UH Manoa) seeks a motivated, dynamic, experienced, and visionary leader to serve as Dean of the Nancy Atmospera-Walch School of Nursing (NAWSON), formerly the School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene (SONDH). This position will also hold The Queen’s Health Systems Endowed Professorship. Building on the UH Manoa’s distinctively multi-cultural and diverse population of students, faculty, and staff and the NAWSON’s recognized leadership in innovative nursing and dental hygiene programs, the successful candidate has an exciting opportunity to guide the School to greater excellence in service to its students, the Hawaii community, and beyond. The NAWSON vision and mission are in alignment with the CDC declaration that racism is a national public health crisis. NAWSON supports the AACN social justice mandates on creating a culture of action and humility, including policies on Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity, and implementing the 10-point action plan to end systemic and structural racism.

Reporting to the Provost, the Dean provides leadership and guidance in all aspects of the School, including ensuring a relevant, cutting-edge curricula in the Department of Nursing and the Department of Dental Hygiene; promoting academic vigor and research productivity; promoting the translation of science through education, research, and evidence-based practice; and expanding programs by building key relationships with community stakeholders. As a senior member of the Provost’s team, the Dean ensures that the mission and goals of the School are aligned with and support the vision and strategic mission of UH Manoa and the University of Hawaii System.

NAWSON is dedicated to improving health through education, research, and service. It provides instructional, clinical and research activities to enhance the health and care of diverse populations in the State of Hawaii and the Asia-Pacific region. The School’s mission is to provide an innovative, caring, and multicultural environment in which faculty, students, and staff work together to generate and transmit knowledge, wisdom and values to promote quality of life and health for present and future generations. The NAWSON is committed to increasing the representation of Native Hawaiian and other underserved people in all nursing and dental hygiene programs. The nursing BS, MS and DNP programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The dental hygiene program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
