For Prospective, Pre-Dental Hygiene and Transfer Students

The Pre-Dental Hygiene advisor facilitates successful progress toward degree by assisting students to navigate the academic arena. Clarification of educational goals and alignment toward career preferences accompany discussions of the student’s academic pathway. Potential applicants to the program are highly encouraged to contact the Pre-Dental Hygiene advisor.

Dental Hygiene Licensure and State Authorization

Once the student has completed the Bachelor of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene program, the Hawaii Board of Dental Examiners determines the applicant eligibility to obtain a state license, which will allow the licensee to practice dental hygiene in the State of Hawaii. UH Manoa Nancy Atmospera-Walch School of Nursing (NAWSON) is unable to confirm that the Dental Hygiene program meets the professional licensure requirements outside of the State of Hawaii and recommends the student contact the respective professional licensing board to determine the licensure requirements in the state in which the student will practice.

College-Level Exam Program Option

College-Level Exam Program (CLEP) exams are a viable option for satisfying course requirements of the Bachelor of Science in dental hygiene programs. Applicants to and students of a NAWSON undergraduate dental hygiene program must consult with a NAWSON Office of Students Services advisor regarding the use and limitations of non-graded course equivalencies to meet current graduation requirements.

Students who successfully pass a CLEP exam will be awarded college credit toward a Bachelor of Science in dental hygiene degree and, therefore, will not need to take the respective required coursework.

Western Undergraduate Exchange

The Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) is a tuition program of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) allowing out-of-state students from specific states a special University resident tuition rate. Please visit the UH Manoa Admission’s WUE page for more details.
