Student Awards & Honors
Dental Hygiene students vote for a student to receive the Leadership award. The student selected for this award from the graduating class demonstrates consistent outstanding leadership ability in providing service to Department of Dental Hygiene and to other students.
Dental Hygiene students vote for a student to receive the Lokomaikai award. Lokomaikai is a Hawaiian word that means to always act with generosity and kindness towards others. The student selected for this award has consistently demonstrated the personal quality of selfless toward the student community.
Hu Friedy Golden Scaler Award
The Golden Scaler Award is presented by the faculty to a senior dental hygiene student in recognition of his or her outstanding clinical skills and professional judgment.
Colgate Star Award
The Colgate Star Award recognizes graduating dental hygiene students who show excellence and commitment to the dental hygiene profession by:
- demonstrating true dedication to the profession,
- exhibiting extraordinary compassion in patient care,
- displaying enthusiasm and follow-through for community service, and
- demonstrating outstanding patient education and motivation skills.
Dental Hygiene Faculty Award
An outstanding dental hygiene student who has maintained high scholarship and made contributions to the department is recognized by the faculty of the Department of Dental Hygiene at graduation.
Faculty Recognition Award
Dental Hygiene students vote for two faculty members: A) dentist and B) dental hygienist to receive the Faculty Recognition Award. Students select faculty who have demonstrated consistent interest in the respect for students, both as learners and individuals, and who have acted as role models for students.
