Melodee Deutsch has more than 48 years of experience in nursing and has practiced in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Hawaii. Her clinical areas of practice are maternal-newborn nursing and quality-patient safety. Throughout her career Melodee has been a staff nurse, outpatient clinic nurse, physician’s office nurse, community health nurse, NICU nurse manager, perinatal clinical nurse specialist, maternal-child director of nursing, quality director, and has been faculty at a diploma school of nursing, Kapiolani Community College, Hawaii Loa College, and the UH Manoa Nursing.

Melodee retired from Kaiser Permanente Hawaii Region in 2009, where she was the Director of Quality, Accreditation, Licensing and Patient Safety for the medical center, home care and long term care. Previously, Melodee was certified by the American Nurses’ Association in perinatal nursing (RNC). Currently, she is certified by the National Association of Healthcare Quality as a certified professional in healthcare quality (CPHQ). She also has a Certificate in Patient Safety from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.

Melodee has received numerous awards and honors: a Nurse Traineeship from the University of Hawaii; a Public Health Traineeship from the University of Hawaii; Manager of the Year from Kaiser Moanalua Medical Center; Maternal-Child Nurse of the Year from the Hawaii Nurses’ Association; Nurse of the Year from the Hawaii Section of the Nurses’ Association of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology; the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching from the Hawaii Edu-Center for Nurses; the Significant Contributions to Nursing Award from the Hawaii Section of the American Organization of Nurse Executives; and was recognized as one of “The Fabulous 50” nurses by UH Manoa Nursing in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the school. She is listed in the World Who’s Who in American Nursing and the World Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare.
