Biography

Michelle Chapman is the APRN based at Waipahu High School, and serving the Pearl City-Waipahu complex area. Michelle has been a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner since 1997, specializing in pediatric primary care, and is board certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Her work history before Hawaii Keiki includes working in private pediatric practices in Georgia and Florida, providing primary pediatric care, hospital newborn exams, and hospital care. These practices were both in underserved rural areas as well as a large suburban pediatric multi-facility practice. Her most recent work site prior to Hawaii Keiki was at an international school in South Korea, working as the school health nurse and the high school science teacher. She earned a BS in biology with a zoology minor from University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she also obtained her MSN.

In graduate school, Michelle had a great number of opportunities to work in community health in underserved populations and it made a lasting impression. She saw the impact it could have on individual families and the community. Upon returning to the United States, it was her goal to become more actively involved in community health and that is how she came to be a part of Hawaii Keiki.  As someone who struggled with weight issues since childhood and has lost a great deal of weight through healthy lifestyle changes, Michelle has a special interest in developing healthy lifestyle changes in adolescents and within their community. She is an active member of the American Nursing Association, National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and National Association of School Nurses.
