Associate Professor & Frances A. Matsuda Chair in Women’s Health

Dr. Holly Fontenot has joined the School as Associate Professor and the Francis A. Matsuda Chair in Women’s Health. A board-certified women’s health nurse practitioner, Dr. Fontenot brings with her extensive experience in nursing education, which has earned her numerous recognitions for teaching and mentoring. She has a strong research background as a nurse scientist with a focus on positive sexual health.  Prior to NAWSON, she served as a tenured Associate Professor in the Connell School of Nursing, Boston College.

Dr. Fontenot earned her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Nursing Science as well as Master of Science in Nursing degree from Connell School of Nursing, Boston College, and completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Georgia Baptist College of Nursing at Mercer University.

Retired after 25 years of service

An esteemed member of the Nursing Faculty, Dr. Chen-Yen Wang retired from the UH at Manoa Nancy Atmospera-Walch School of Nursing on September 1, 2020 after 25 years of dedicated service. The School truly values her contributions to the nursing curriculum and recognizes her love for teaching and in nurturing our students while working to improve the health of the Chinese community. We wish her a well-earned rest and a heartfelt thank you. She will be greatly missed by students and colleagues alike!

Nicole, a registered nurse in the State of Hawaii, is pursuing her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Nancy Atmospera-Walch School of Nursing, and hopes to finish by 2021. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing at UH and describes herself as exceptionally innovative and fully committed to providing safe and holistic patient care, with a passion for ongoing learning within the dynamic healthcare and research setting.

A graduate student pursuing a doctorate degree in nursing practice, Daisy is enthused with being part of a progressive program (contact tracing) in the fight against COVID-19. She believes that joining NAWSON, and applying her knowledge in public health and nursing, complemented by her passion to serve, provides for a timely opportunity to give back to the School, and eventually, the community. Daisy completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health from the California State University of Northridge.

Qi ZhiQi Zhi

Qi (pronounced as chai) has completed the pre-licensure year in the GEPN and moved into her specialty track of the DNP Program at NAWSON. She earned her master’s degree in Public Health with a specialization in Epidemiology from the University of California, Los Angeles, and finished her Bachelor of Science degree from the Tianjin University of Commerce. Tianjin, China. Her recent work was with the Philip R Lee Institute of Health Policy Studies of UC San Francisco, where she served as the Project Coordinator and Data Manager. Qi is enthusiastic in being part of NAWSON, and she feels strongly about applying the skills she acquired from her experience in working on diverse public health research projects.
