STUDENT NURSES ASSOCIATION RAISES FUNDS FOR RELAY FOR LIFE
On Saturday, March 7, 2015, the American Cancer Society’s 10th Annual Relay for Life at UH Manoa was held at T.C. Ching Field, and for the first time, the event was 18-hours. This year’s theme was “decades” and UH Manoa Nursing was represented by 34 UH Manoa and KCC student nurses who joined SNA and their team, “Nursing for a Cure.”
2ND ANNUAL HELEN HITES MEMORIAL BLOOD DRIVE
At the 2nd Annual Helen Hites Memorial Blood Drive, we registered 63 donors, 13 of whom were first-time donors. A total of 47 units of blood were collected! Since each unit of blood can be divided into three different components, our blood drive was able to touch the lives of up 141 patients! A huge mahalo to all of our donors!
63RD ANNUAL NATIONAL STUDENT NURSES ASSOCIATION CONVENTION
Student officers from the Student Nurses’ Association (SNA) organization at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa attended the National Student Nurse’s Association (NSNA) convention in Phoenix, AZ from April 8-11, 2015. The students joined nursing students from across the nation. Student attendees participated in a NCLEX Review Session, focus sessions, and plenary sessions. Nursing students were also able to present ideas they have for change in the form of resolutions at the House of Delegates. At these hearings, delegates from all over the country present their resolutions with the resolutions passing then recommended to the American Nurses Association for discussion.
Student attendees included Chelsey Stout (President), Ken Takahashi (Vice President), Amanda Bejerana (Website Editor), Alyssa Lagat-Ramos (Secretary), Danica Quevedo (Media Director), Jason Ching (Delegate), Garrett Venema (NSNA Member), Jaime Cabuag (Treasurer), and Gary Glauberman (Faculty Advisor).
COLLEGE CAREER FAIR
The 2015 Hawai’i P-20 Career Industry Fair was held on Thursday, April 16, 2015, at the Hawaii Convention Center. The event consisted of 19 exhibitors from various industries that provided hands-on interactive activities to middle school and high school students. Students from SNA along with SNA faculty advisor Gary Glauberman, and fifth semester nursing students ran the University of Hawaii Nancy Atmospera-Walch School of Nursing table. They taught students how to measure their pulse before and after exercise, and talked about the programs offered at UH.
The Student Nurses Association is a non-profit organization registered with the University of Hawaii at Manoa and is the school chapter of the National Student Nurses Association.
