U.S. News & World Report has ranked the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s Nursing program among the country’s top 100 of best nursing schools. UH Manoa Nursing tied for 99th place out of 442 ranked schools, moving up from its previous position of 200th place.
The UH Manoa Nancy Atmospera-Walch School of Nursing (NAWSON) is at the forefront of health professionals education offering innovative programs enhanced by simulation technology and web-based education, with rich clinical experiences, cooperative internships, and interdisciplinary study opportunities. UH Manoa Nursing is committed to addressing the nursing shortage while contributing to advancing the discipline and science of nursing.
As part of the U.S. News & World Report 2012 Best Graduate Schools rankings, master’s degree programs in nursing were assessed based on a peer survey of deans, other administrators, and/or faculty at accredited degree programs or schools in each discipline. This is U.S. News’s first ranking of graduate nursing programs in four years.
“Strong graduate nursing education is key to ensuring the delivery of quality healthcare in Hawaii. Our focus on advanced practice and doctoral education provides RNs access to the lifelong learning needed for fast paced high technology care environments,” noted Mary Boland, Dean of the school. “Students have the opportunity to gain experience in healthcare organizations across the state. This recognition belongs to them as well – they provide the clinical venue for learning to take place. We are fortunate to enjoy strong university and community support.”
The 2012 Best Graduate Schools book includes essential, detailed statistical information on more than 1,200 programs nationwide. In addition to featuring new rankings in five of the largest professional graduate school disciplines (business, law, education, engineering, and medicine), the 2012 rankings also include updated peer-assessment-only rankings for healthcare management, nursing, nursing-anesthesia, nursing midwifery, physician assistant, public health, rehabilitation counseling, and veterinary medicine.
“Based on federal government forecasts, the demand for jobs in the healthcare industry is expected to grow in the coming decade,” said Brian Kelly, editor of U.S. News & World Report. “The new and updated Best Nursing Schools rankings guide will serve as an essential resource for anyone considering professional development in this arena.”
