Aloha to retiring faculty
Karol Richardson, PhD, MPH, APRN, Associate Professor
36 Years of Service
Dr. Karol Richardson, a clinician and obstetric nurse educator par excellence, retired in summer 2019 following 36 years of service to the school and UH Manoa. Richardson, a force in student education at NAWSON impacted students with her remarkable lectures and has been complemented with great stories linked for better appreciation and understanding of the role of nurses in an ever-changing environment. Many have written about her extensive contributions to the School, and she is a recipient of various citations and honors but none could (perhaps) surpass the recognition from the countless students that regard her as an inspiring mentor. Congratulations on your retirement!
Janet Uyehara, MSN, RN, Assistant Professor
50 Years of Service
In 1969, a young nurse began her journey as an educator at the University of Hawaii resolving to make better the academic experience of the students by bringing clinical obstetric experience to teaching, and influencing generations of learners. Uyehara has received countless honors that she shares with her fellow NAWSON faculty. Most recently in 2019, Uyehara received the UH Presidential Citation for Meritorious teaching. We appreciate your long tenure of tireless and dedicated service, and wish you the best as you embark on a new adventure. Congratulations on your retirement!
