Nursing Student Responsibilities :

  • Come prepared to advising sessions
  • Contact the School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene (SONDH) Office of Student Services for help with course registration, academic advising, and degree progression
  • Check your @hawaii.edu email regularly for important updates and announcements.

Advisor Responsibilities:

  • Assist with course scheduling/registration, degree progression, and graduation requirements
  • Provide information on SONDH and UH Manoa policies
  • Refer students to relevant campus services and resources (Financial Aid, Registrar, Kokua, Tutoring, Counseling, etc.)

Advising information:

Students are responsible for meeting regularly with their academic advisor to stay on track for timely graduation.

Schedule advising appointments through STAR Balance using the advisor links listed in the. Office of Student Services Directory.

Pre-Nursing Students

Pre-Nursing students are required to contact the advisor during their first semester for mandatory advising.

High School Direct Entry in Nursing Students

Mandatory advising is required during both the first and second semesters of a student’s first academic year to ensure continuation requirements are met. After the first year, mandatory advising is required once per academic year.

Traditional BS in Nursing Students

Mandatory advising is required during the first semester of the first academic year in the program. Mandatory advising is required once per academic year.

UH West Oahu Pre-Nursing to UH Manoa BS in Nursing Students

Mandatory advising is required every semester of the nursing program.

Online RN to BS in Nursing Students

Mandatory advising is required every semester of the nursing program.

Master of Science and PhD Students

Master of Science and PhD nursing students are required to contact the advisor and Program Director during their first semester in the program.

DNP Students

DNP nursing students are required to contact the specialty track coordinator (AGPCNP, FNP, or PMHNP) and Program Director during their first semester in the program.
