Biography
Carmen Linhares has been an assistant professor in the School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene since 2008. She is the course coordinator for the prelicensure Maternal/Newborn and Women’s Health courses in the Undergraduate curriculum and the Graduate Entry Program in Nursing (GEPN). She is also a graduate faculty member routinely working with Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) students during their women’s health specialty rotations.
In 1995, Carmen Linhares graduated from Columbia University, New York with a MSN, specializing in Nurse-Midwifery. She has been a full-scope practicing certified nurse-midwife with experience in caring for women and families in community health and military health settings.
In 2007, Dr. Linhares obtained a PhD from the University of Hawaii at Manoa School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene. Her research dissertation title was “Mana from Heaven: The Lived Experiences of Midwives with Spirituality during Childbirth – a Phenomenological Study.”
Dr. Linhares’ areas of research and interest include spirituality in childbirth, reproductive health care and disparities, and simulation education.
