Program Description

The Shidler College of Business Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA-HC) with a Health Care Management Track, in collaboration with the University of Hawaii at Manoa School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene, offers a unique dual-degree pathway that allows students to earn both an MBA and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree. This integrated program provides a robust foundation in healthcare management and nursing leadership, preparing graduates to lead in diverse healthcare environments.

The EMBA-HC program is a two-year (5 semester) track, while the DNP program is designed to be completed in one additional year (3 semesters). This pathway is ideal for healthcare professionals who seek advanced business acumen alongside clinical nursing expertise.

The Shidler EMBA-HC to DNP pathway allows healthcare professionals to combine top-tier business management training with the advanced clinical and leadership skills needed to make a significant impact in healthcare systems. This dual-degree opportunity is designed to develop leaders who are equipped to navigate complex healthcare challenges and drive systemic change across Hawaii and beyond.

Timeline

  • August 2024 – Start Shidler EMBA-HC program
  • September 2025 – Apply to UH Manoa Nursing
  • May 2026 – Graduate from Shidler with MBA degree
  • August 2026 – Start UH Manoa Nursing DNP program

Curriculum

The DNP Director will review the student’s professional experience and EMBA-HC coursework and create a curriculum plan customized for each student.

Enrollment in equivalent courses in other UH schools or offered by NEXus may be taken to ensure timely student progression. Students participate in a mandatory orientation during the first week of instruction each semester.

The following is a sample curriculum and is subject to change. Course offerings may vary based on the student’s year of admission to the program, faculty, and program updates.

  • NURS 757 DNP Scholarly Project C: Evaluation & Dissemination (2)

Total Number of Credits: 12 or more total credits required
