The school is excited to meet the first class of the MS in Nursing Education & Leadership this Fall 2023. The MS in Nursing Education and Leadership Taskforce Group is made up of UHM faculty who will be providing their experience and knowledge to move an exemplary curriculum into the future. Members include Frankie Hale, PhD, RN, Assistant Professor; Maureen O’Brien, DNP, ACNS-BC, CCRN-K, Assistant Professor & Program Director for GEPN; William Siegman, MS, RN, Undergraduate Program Director; and Merle Kataoka-Yahiro, Dr.P.H., MPH, MS, APRN, Graduate Chair & Professor.
The Master of Science (MS) in Nursing Education & Leadership Track is designed for post-baccalaureate nurses and advance practice nurses to expand their knowledge and expertise in the nursing education, best practices and innovation in teaching and learning, and leadership development. The 36-credit degree program is a hybrid format with most of the courses offered online except for the fieldwork and practicum experiences. This program offers both part-time and full-time pathways. In the final two semesters, students will be immersed in real-world teaching and learning opportunities in didactic, lab, and practicum experiences with a master teacher.
The Graduate Nursing Certificate in Nursing Education aims to develop foundational skills and knowledge in nursing education and leadership development. The 15-credit program is a part-time, hybrid format with most of the courses offered online except for the fieldwork and practicum experiences. Students who complete the Graduate Nursing Certificate in Nursing Education are eligible to sit for the National League for Nursing certification as a nurse educator and the 15-credits can also count towards the MS in Nursing Education & Leadership degree.
