Inaugural UH Manoa Nursing Dean’s CHAFRAPRE Lecture

President, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing 2007-2009

Our Distinguished Speaker: Dr. Huston is the Director of the School of Nursing and professor of nursing at California State University, Chico. She served as the 2007-2009 President of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International. She is the co-author of five textbooks on leadership, management, and professional issues in nursing and has published more than 100 articles in leading professional journals. Her co-authored book, “Leadership Roles and Management Functions in Nursing” has been translated into five languages. She authored “Management Decision Making for Nurses”, an AJN book of the year. She is also the co-developer of the Marquis-Huston Model for Teaching Critical Thinking, which has been recognized internationally by nurse scholars. Dr. Huston received her BSN degree from University of Iowa, her MSN from California State University, Chico, and her MPA and DPA degrees from the University of Southern California. Her research interests include critical thinking, mentoring, outcomes measurement, quality health care, and empowerment of the nursing profession.

CHAFRAPRE Lecture Series: The CHAFRAPRE Lecture Series is supported by an endowment fund at UH Foundation established for UH Manoa Nursing. The purpose is to bring nationally renowned speakers to educate students, alumni, nursing and other healthcare professionals.
