Gary Glauberman Selected for LEADS Fellow in Translational Research

photo of Gary GlaubermanIn Spring 2022, Dr. Gary Glauberman was awarded a nationally competitive research training fellowship from the Institute for Clinical Research Education (ICRE) at the University of Pittsburgh. He has been selected as a Leading Emerging and Diverse Scientists to Success (LEADS) Fellow in Translational Research. The primary objective of ICRE is to develop, nurture, and support future clinical and translational scientists by conveying the crucial skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career in clinical research.

Researchers selected for the LEADS program will engage in a two-year program in Translational Research designed for early-career faculty and postdocs from Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs). The University of Hawaii at Manoa is one of nine participating schools. The LEADS Fellowship provides training in grant writing skills and networking opportunities. The ultimate goal is for LEADS programs participants to successfully submit a grant to a federal funding agency by the end of their fellowship.

Glauberman’s research focus is on community emergency preparedness for natural disasters and disease outbreaks. He is most looking forward to the mentorship in grant writing and career coaching that he believes will lead to successful grant applications for federal research funding in the future.

“I believe the LEADS Fellowship will have a tremendous impact on launching my career as a health sciences researcher,” Glauberman said. “As a tenure-track faculty, I am always seeking ways to ‘level-up’ my research knowledge and skills. The LEADS Fellowship will connect me with experts in the field and other emerging researchers from various health disciplines, and together, I hope we can build our abilities to lead research projects that push nursing and health science forward.”
