Hawaii Keiki (HK): Healthy & Ready to Learn welcomes University of Hawaii (UH) health science student participation through structured learning opportunities. Faculty and students may request clinical or project placement at a specific HK site. Priority is given to UH students but students at other universities are welcomed on a space available basis.
To expedite requests, ensure that your academic institution has an existing Affiliate Agreement with the HI Department of Education (HIDOE) prior to contacting the program. Student placement is conditional upon a HIDOE background check.
UH Manoa Nursing and Dental Hygiene students: To request placement and obtain health and background check requirements, contact your course faculty.
Interprofessional Education
The Hawaii Interprofessional Education and Collaborative (HIPEC) Alliance Program successfully launched as a pilot in August 2017. The HIPEC Alliance team began providing various health services for students at the HK clinic located at Dole Middle School, a HIDOE public school. These services included behavioral health, clinical pharmacy consultations, oral health, in addition to urgent and primary care services.
In 2018, the HIPEC team was chosen by the National Center for Accelerating Interprofessional Practice and Education as one of six exemplary projects in the country that would be highlighted by the National Center.
