GEPN Cohort 11 Toiletries and Supplies Donation Drive for Kapiolani Medical Center Patients & Families

The Graduate Entry in Nursing Program (GEPN) Student Advisory Council (SAC) of Cohort 11 organized a community project to collect toiletries and supplies for Kapiolani Medical Center (KMC). GEPN SAC selected KMC to be the recipients of their donation drive because they are the only acute care facility that every GEPN clinical group has been to at least once. Cohort 11 collected donations to benefit KMC pediatric patients and their families. The SAC coordinated with the KMC playroom staff and the philanthropy department, and received an approved list of donation items.

GEPN SAC council members Jane Lim, Michelle Tom and Leah Hosaka spearheaded the effort. In August 2019, the students delivered 3 boxes and 6 bags of donated toiletries and supplies. A special thank you to the students, faculty and staff who made donations.

The Graduate Entry in Nursing Program (GEPN) Student Advisory Council (SAC) seeks to promote program quality, strives to foster community within the school and, most importantly, advocates for student support. Council members represent the current and the most recent GEPN class, which enables the group to maintain momentum and build on past successes.

donations Members of this student-led council serve as liaisons and foster communication between students and the Dean’s Office. The Council participates in program improvement through representation on school curriculum committees and review and validation of aggregate program effectiveness results. The Council makes recommendations to the Dean regarding: program curriculum delivery; evaluation of courses, programs, and teaching; academic support services; and student wellness.

The Council also plans and implements initiatives of interest for GEPN students such as University and community outreach, mentoring, community service, and the UH Manoa Graduate Student Organization (GSO).
