Program Outcomes/Competencies
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
The AACN The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education (2021). provides the framework for the preparation of baccalaureate prepared professional nurses.
Upon completion of the program, the student will be prepared to meet all Entry-Level Domains:
- Integrate and apply, disciplinary knowledge to form clinical judgment and innovative practice.
- Deliver person-centered holistic care that is individualized, equitable, compassionate, developmentally appropriate, and that incorporates scientific knowledge and the social determinants of health.
- Implement and evaluate practices to improve population health outcomes with diverse partners that span the continuum from health prevention to disease management.
- Incorporate knowledge of research principles and evidence into nursing practice, and demonstrate ethical conduct of scholarly activities, including research, EBP and QI.
- Apply principles for improving individual and system performance to promote a culture of quality and safety in healthcare delivery.
- Establish collaborative, interprofessional relationships with patients, families, care teams, stakeholders, and communities to enhance the healthcare experience and strengthen outcomes.
- Apply knowledge of healthcare systems to provide safe quality care to diverse populations using resources cost effectively.
- Use Information and communication technologies and informatics processes to gather data to drive decision making, provide care, and support nursing practice.

At the completion of their program, the student is awarded a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Graduate Entry Program in Nursing (GEPN)
The AACN The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education (2021). provides the framework for the pre-licensure year curriculum for professional nurses.
Upon completion of the pre-licensure year, the student will be prepared to meet all Entry-Level Domains:
- Integrate and apply, disciplinary knowledge to form clinical judgment and innovative practice.
- Deliver person-centered holistic care that is individualized, equitable, compassionate, developmentally appropriate, and that incorporates scientific knowledge and the social determinants of health.
- Implement and evaluate practices to improve population health outcomes with diverse partners that span the continuum from health prevention to disease management.
- Incorporate knowledge of research principles and evidence into nursing practice, and demonstrate ethical conduct of scholarly activities, including research, EBP and QI.

Master’s of Science in Nursing
The AACN The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education (2021), provides the framework for the Master’s of Science in Nursing degree.
Upon completion of the Master’s degree curriculum, the student will be prepared to meet all Advanced-level Domains:
- Integrate, translate, apply, and advance disciplinary knowledge to form clinical judgment and innovative practice.
- Lead and advocate for person-centered holistic care that is individualized, equitable, compassionate, developmentally appropriate, and that incorporates scientific knowledge and the social determinants of health.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate practices and policies to improve population health outcomes with diverse partners that span the continuum from health prevention to disease management.
- Engage in the advancement of scholarship, through incorporating knowledge of research principles and evidence into nursing practice, and by promoting ethical conduct of scholarly activities, including research, Evidence Based Practice (EBP) and Quality Improvement (QI).
- Integrate and advance principles of improvement science to individual and system performance to promote a culture of quality and safety in healthcare delivery
- Establish and advocate for collaborative interprofessional relationships with patients, families, care teams, stakeholders, and communities to enhance the healthcare experience and strengthen outcomes.

Doctor of Nursing Practice
The AACN The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education (2021), provides the framework for the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Degree.
Upon completion of the DNP curriculum, the student will be prepared to meet all Advanced-level Domains:
- Integrate, translate, apply, and advance disciplinary knowledge to form clinical judgment and innovative practice.
- Lead and advocate for person-centered holistic care that is individualized, equitable, compassionate, developmentally appropriate, and that incorporates scientific knowledge and the social determinants of health.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate practices and policies to improve population health outcomes with diverse partners that span the continuum from health prevention to disease management.

PhD in Nursing program goals:
The goal of the program is to graduate independent nursing scholars capable of conducting research that generates new knowledge with a focus on health and well being of diverse Populations.
PhD program Learning Objectives:
- Synthesize nursing and interdisciplinary knowledge within a substantive area of inquiry relevant to nursing practice.
- Use scholarly inquiry to generate and disseminate knowledge that advances the nursing discipline.
- Design, conduct and disseminate innovative, rigorous research that draws upon multiple methods to advance nursing science.
- Articulate findings from research to inform practice and reshape policy with a key focus on reducing health disparities and improving health outcomes.
- Assume leadership and collaborate with other disciplines to conduct team science or engage in interprofessional teamwork.
- Expand socially and culturally meaningful science that supports the discipline and practice of nursing.
Nursing Licensure and State Authorization
University of Hawaii at Manoa OVCAA Professional Licensure Disclosure
High School Direct Entry in Nursing, Traditional Bachelor of Science Program, and UH West Oahu Pre-Nursing to UH Manoa Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Once the student has completed the Bachelor Science Degree with a major in Nursing program, the Hawaii Board of Nursing determines the applicant’s eligibility to obtain a state license, which will allow the licensee to practice nursing in the State of Hawaii. UH Manoa School of Nursing & Dental Hygiene (SONDH) is unable to confirm that the Nursing program meets the professional licensure requirements outside of the State of Hawaii and recommends the student contact their respective professional licensing board to determine the licensure requirements in the state in which the student will practice.
Online RN to Bachelor of Science Program
The Online RN to BS program does not require RN licensure for admission for eligible UH system ADN applicants. UH Manoa School of Nursing & Dental Hygiene (SONDH) is unable to confirm that the Nursing program meets the professional licensure requirements outside of the State of Hawaii and recommends the student contact their respective professional licensing board to determine the licensure requirements in the state in which the student will practice.
Graduate Entry Program in Nursing (GEPN)
