Biography
Molly Altman is an Associate Professor and the PhD Program Director at the Nancy Atmospera-Walch School of Nursing. She is a certified nurse-midwife with over 19 years of clinical experience caring for people across the sexual and reproductive health care spectrum. Additionally, she has over 12 years of experience teaching nurses and midwives at both the undergraduate and graduate level, with a focus on building a nursing workforce that can be agents of change within our health care systems.
Dr. Altman’s program of research uses community-based approaches to address disparities care for minoritized people and families, including Black, Indigenous, and LGBTQ+ communities. She is leading the Birth Includes Us study, a community-driven study capturing experiences of pregnancy care for queer and transgender families, with the goal to create avenues for safer, more equitable care. Her work, in collaboration with colleagues across the nation, utilizes a transdisciplinary approach to addressing inequities within reproductive health care across the lifespan. Further, given the need to diversify the nursing workforce, Dr. Altman has led and supported numerous projects re-envisioning nursing and midwifery education to create safer and more supportive learning environments for students from minoritized backgrounds.
