Step 1 – Apply to UH Manoa Undergraduate Admissions
- Required for all new applicants and returning, transferring, and unclassified UH Manoa students.

Admission Requirements
Admission of students to the Bachelor of Science in dental hygiene program is based on specific written criteria, procedures and policies. Previous academic performance in high school, at UH Manoa or other college / university, performance on standardized tests and other predictors are utilized in selecting students who have potential for successfully completing the program.
Criteria for UH Manoa student and college transfer applicants include the following minimum requirements:
Cumulative GPA
2.5 in all college/university credits
Basic Science GPA
The following courses will be calculated for Basic Science GPA:
- PHYL 141/141L and PHYL 142/142L
- CHEM 161 or BIOC 141
- MICRO 130/140L
- FSHN 185
Individual Interview
Completion of 31 Prerequisite Credit, General Education and Other Requirements
At the time of application, students must have completed all prerequisite courses before submission of an application. In addition, students have “General Education” and “Other” requirements to complete. It is highly recommended that the student contact a dental hygiene advisor.

Transfer Applicants
Check the UH System Course Transfer Database and cross-reference their equivalent courses with the UH Manoa General Catalog for designations. Information on these requirements can be found in the UH Manoa General Catalog and UHM advising centers.
Graduation Requirements
Any missing graduation requirements will need to be met by the end of the dental hygiene program.
English Language Proficiency
If an applicant’s native language is not English or if they have not obtained a bachelor’s or master’s degree from an English-speaking college, then the applicant must submit official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores with a minimum score of 600.
