2024 Nursing and Dental Hygiene Research and Scholarship Poster Festival Draws a Huge Crowd

Nearly 100 students, faculty, staff, and community partners attended the 2024 Nursing and Dental Hygiene Research and Scholarship Poster Festival. The event, which was spearheaded by the Nancy Atmospera-Walch School of Nursing (NAWSON) Research and Scholarship Committee, was held on April 4, 2024, took place in the University of Hawaii at Manoa Campus Center Ballroom. Here, researchers displayed a total of 34 scholarly posters.

The posters highlighted quality improvement projects, literature reviews, and original research. The objective for this annual event is to create an opportunity for attendees and presenters to share work, build connections, and learn from one another.

“This event creates a safe space for student scholars to advance their skills in professional presentations to our local community of nursing and dental hygiene scholars” said Dr. Fontenot, the Associate Dean of Research for NAWSON, adding that she hopes “the yearly poster festival will help to highlight the amazing work that is being produced by our students and community members. I hope that it will enable networking that will foster further research and quality improvement with the goal to improve the health and wellbeing for the communities we serve.”

The annual event generally starts with a call for abstracts in the month of March. This is followed by evaluation of the submissions by the NAWSON Research and Scholarship Committee. From there, they select well-developed abstracts. Finalists then produce a professional poster for the event, which occurs in April. The event is organized by the NAWSON Research and Scholarship Committee and this year was co-sponsored by the Gamma Psi Chapter of Sigma.
