On Wednesday, November 18, 2020, the UH Manoa Nursing Alumni Association presented Dean Mary G. Boland with the Lifetime Achievement Award during their virtual board meeting.
This Lifetime Achievement award honors Boland as an outstanding leader and influential nurse who has made significant contributions to the University of Hawaii and the local nursing community. The Alumni Association bestowed this inaugural and highest honor to Boland in celebration of her professional achievements and distinguished service.
Under her guidance, the Alumni Association was reactivated in 2012 and has flourished with strong ties to nursing students and a steadfast commitment to supporting student scholarship. The board has created the Alumni Hall of Fame with Outstanding Young Alumni Awards and have established an Endowed Student Scholarship fund.
During Boland’s tenure with the school, she has led local, national and global initiatives that have positively impacted the community and the nursing profession. She has developed key partnerships and launched programs that will enhance healthcare for generations. In her role as dean, she has advanced nursing excellence, innovation, and inclusiveness that will continue to move the school, alumni chapter, and nursing into the future.
Most recently, she has guided the school, university and state into uncharted territory during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of our community during these challenging times will forever be remembered and is a reflection of the true nurse she is.
The Alumni Association originally planned to present the Dean with this award at the June 2020 Alumni Awards & Scholarship Fundraiser Event but due to COVID-19, the event was postponed and then cancelled.
